How it started

David Bressler, a finance professional with a full-time job since 2011, used six weeks of paternity leave in July 2022 to scratch his own itch of helping colleagues with Excel formulas. OpenAI suggested the name 'Excel Formula Bot'; he built the MVP in a couple of weeks with Bubble, learning from YouTube. A Reddit post in the Excel subreddit went viral (10K upvotes), and after a $5K OpenAI API bill he added a donation Stripe link, then paid plans; Microsoft later sent a cease and desist, prompting the rename.
