How it started
John McEvoy, a Scottish graphic designer who taught himself to code, worked for an Edinburgh bus company and wanted to see buses on a map like Uber. He designed it in Illustrator, built early versions in Xamarin, then rebuilt in Swift and Flutter. Hyper-local App Store optimization drove 5M+ downloads; after banner ad revenue collapsed in the pandemic, he switched to subscriptions in 2020.
