How it started
Kourosh, a former fintech product manager who taught himself to code, got the idea for Voicy while watching his father slowly type emails. He built a first version as a Chrome extension in about two weeks with AI coding tools, then expanded it to desktop and mobile apps on top of OpenAI's speech-to-text models. Competitors chased tech-savvy power users, but Kourosh found a loyal, overlooked audience: seniors and people with physical disabilities who depend on dictation every day. Distribution through the Chrome Web Store, SEO and YouTube videos aimed at seniors grew Voicy to around $18K per month.
